- DIRECTOR:
Christopher Guest
- ACTORS:
Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, John Michael Higgins, Michael McKean, Michael Hitchcock, Parker Posey, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Lynch, Christopher Guest
- PLOT:
An eclectic cast of characters converges on Philadelphia to compete in the Mayflower Dog Show for the coveted title of "Best in Show."
- EVALUATION:
Literally Guest's best in show with a strong cast arranged around a simple premise that nevertheless manages to be constantly hilarious.
- WRITING:
The lines between improv and script are blurred, but the dialogue proves eminently quotable, from Willard's buffoonish declarations to Guest's naming of nuts.
- FILMING:
Documentary style (but before it was cool) with very convincing set design.
- BEST PART:
Tough not to pick Willard for this one, although Guest's unexpected ventriloquism act comes close.
- TRIVIA:
Presumably due to its filming in Vancouver, this film features several Stargate SG-1 actors, including Don Davis, Teryl Rothery, and Collin Cunningham.
- STINGER:
Willard, asking his increasingly frustrated broadcasting partner how much he thinks Willard can bench press.
