  • DIRECTOR: Mario Bava
  • ACTORS: Jacqueline Pierreux, Michèle Mercier, Lidia Alfonsi, Boris Karloff, Mark Damon, Susy Andersen, Massimo Righi, Rika Dialina, Glauco Onorato
  • PLOT: A trilogy of horror vignettes involving a woman haunted by a ring stolen from a corpse, a woman stalked over the telephone, and an expanding family of vampires.
  • EVALUATION: None of the tales are bad, but the haunted ring is probably the most memorable, although you have to hand it to the vampire story for killing both a dog and a child.
  • WRITING: Based on stories by Chekov and the second-most famous Tolstoy, apparently.
  • FILMING: Bava is a talented director, but the set design sells his films for me, especially in the strangely-lit vampire tale.
  • BEST PART: Karloff's narration
  • TRIVIA: Maybe it's not surprising that the band took its name from this film, but apparently they also shifted to scarier music as a result of seeing crowds line up for this film.
  • STINGER: Karloff saying "And now a few words about vampires..."
