  • DIRECTOR: James Whale
  • ACTORS: Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Valerie Hobson, Ernest Thesiger, Elsa Lanchester, Una O'Connor
  • PLOT: The reluctant Baron Frankenstein (Clive) is coerced by the creepy Dr. Pretorius (Thesiger) into creating a mate (Lanchester) for his increasingly communicative monster (Karloff).
  • EVALUATION: Although the first half drags a bit (Tiny royalty! Annoying maid!!) , the crypt and cottage scenes work well enough, culminating in the wonderfully suspenseful introduction of the Bride.
  • WRITING: The idea of this sequel being presented by Mary Shelley is much more interesting than the execution thereof, although at least the monster gets in more dialogue this time around.
  • FILMING: The scenery is great and the canted angles and arcing electricity every bit as impressive as in the first film.
  • BEST PART: Lanchester's scream is one of the great moments in classic horror films.
  • TRIVIA: John Carradine and Walter Brennan are both featured in minor roles.
  • STINGER: Frankenstein's monster saying SMOKE, GOOD! and DRINK, GOOD!
