- EVALUATION:
A very enjoyable crime film that casts Matthau against type while making exactly the right use of Baker and Vernon and never talking down to its audience.
- WRITING:
Great when it sticks to bank robbing and bounty hunting, awful when it attempts love scenes.
- FILMING:
Excellent location filming in Nevada (standing in for New Mexico) and a wonderfully messy car chase.
- BEST PART:
Probably the heist itself, especially due to the fact that there are cops around even before it begins.
- TRIVIA:
The line "They're gonna strip you naked and go to work on you with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch." gets reused in Pulp Fiction.
- STINGER:
Joe Don Baker blows himself up.
