  • DIRECTOR: David Cronenberg
  • ACTORS: Jeremy Irons, Geneviève Bujold, Heidi von Palleske, Barbara Gordon, Shirley Douglas, Stephen Lack
  • PLOT: Twin brothers share everything, including their career trajectories, lovers, drug addictions, and disturbing deaths.
  • EVALUATION: With a superb performance (or set of performances) from Jeremy Irons and some remarkably agile staging, it is difficult to believe that we aren't actually seeing twins in a film that correctly understands the inherent creepiness of both twins and male gynecologists.
  • WRITING: Helped considerably by Cronenberg's ability to cultivate discomforting atmospheres and Irons's skillful delineation between the twins.
  • FILMING: Probably the best non-CGI example of filming one actor as though they are two people.
  • BEST PART: Bev, initiating surgery with a bunch of unconventional instruments, decides instead to take a whiff of the anesthesia.
  • TRIVIA: Based very loosely on the lives of twins Stewart and Cyril Marcus.
  • STINGER: Little girl yelling "I know for a fact you don't even know what fuck is!"
