  • DIRECTOR: Sergio Leone
  • ACTORS: Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, Gian Maria Volonté, Mario Brega, Luigi Pistilli, Aldo Sambrell, Klaus Kinski, Benito Stefanelli, Panos Papadopoulos
  • PLOT: Two bounty hunters (Eastwood and Van Cleef) enter into a reluctant partnership to track down a psychotic bandit nicknamed El Indio (Volonté).
  • EVALUATION: This strange middle child of the so-called "Man With No Name" trilogy features some of the most surreal imagery in the series even if the plot isn't quite as compelling as in the two other films.
  • WRITING: Arranging the narrative around the pocket watches is interesting, even if the villain of the piece seems traumatized by that one time his raping went wrong, which is just odd.
  • FILMING: Leone, cinematographer Massimo Dallamano, and the set designers all do an outstanding job visualizing run-down small towns and outlaw hideouts.
  • BEST PART: Either Eastwood and Van Cleef shooting each other's hats or the suspenseful bank heist.
  • TRIVIA: An Italian court ruled that Eastwood's character in this film is not the same one he played in A Fistful of Dollars, despite the fact that the two men wore the same poncho.
  • STINGER: A family resemblance is claimed between an attractive woman and one of the uglier men to grace the silver screen.
