- Buster Keaton's first independent film, One Week is a hilarious look at the first week in a newlywed couple's married life. Naturally, that involves the bride (Sybil Seely) being kidnapped by a rival, a plan that is thwarted when the groom (Keaton) impersonates a traffic cop. The highlight of this two-reeler, though, is the bewildering "build-it-yourself" house that doesn't contain a single right angle. Walls fall over, floors sag, and the whole home rotates like it's trapped in a blender. A film like this would be any other comedian's masterpiece, but for Keaton it's a testbed for later, better gags involving car chases, destructive trains, and collapsing homes.
