- Directed by and starring Jackie Chan, Police Story is an enjoyable vehicle for Chan's considerable skills as both a martial artist and a fight choreographer. The story is...not important! What is important is that the film finds some reason for a bunch of cars to tear through a Chinese shanty town. It also creates circumstances in which Chan engages in a one-sided fight with an unconscious friend, jumps through a car window, rides a motorcycle through a shopping mall, and slides down a three-story-tall pole covered in light bulbs. Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung, and others play supporting roles, but the show is all Chan's.
