  • DIRECTOR: John Frankenheimer
  • ACTORS: Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Natascha McElhone, Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd, Sean Bean, Jonathan Pryce, Skipp Sudduth, Michael Lonsdale
  • PLOT: A crew of thieves hired by an anonymous Irish backer tries to steal a mysterious case before a group of Russians can acquire it.
  • EVALUATION: In my best imitation of a Sun Tzu quote: It is better to fall short of being a great movie than to have no such ambitions in the first place.
  • WRITING: Slightly beneath the high level of acting talent, but occasionally witty and never bad.
  • FILMING: The camera moves a little too fast through some terrific French scenery but at exactly the right speed in the film's many astounding car chases.
  • BEST PART: Random Michael Lonsdale painting miniatures is great, but the award goes to the car chase in which two vehicles are clearly driving the wrong direction in actual traffic.
  • TRIVIA: Katarina Witt plays the world-famous ice skater, which makes a certain amount of sense.
  • STINGER: Robert De Niro takes Sean Bean out with coffee.
