- DIRECTOR:
Christopher Guest
- ACTORS:
Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Lewis Arquette, Bob Balaban, Matt Keeslar
- PLOT:
A small town in Missouri puts on a play about its history while anticipating a visit from a big-name Broadway theater critic.
- EVALUATION:
A not-quite-funny enough Christopher Guest film still manages a few chuckles, although smaller roles from Lewis Arquette and Linda Kash are much more sincere than anything from the bigger comedy names.
- WRITING:
Occasionally hilarious with long bouts of intentionally boring songwriting.
- FILMING:
In the documentary style, but back before it was cool.
- BEST PART:
Tough not to laugh at the My Dinner with Andre action figures.
- TRIVIA:
I realize this is not a huge part of the film, but apparently Wallace Shawn inherited the My Dinner with Andre action figures and keeps them on display in his home.
- STINGER:
Larry Miller as the town mayor: "There's a saying in Missouri, if you don't like the weather just wait five minutes. In Blaine, with hard work, I think we can get that down to three or four minutes."
