- DIRECTOR:
Byron Haskin
- ACTORS:
Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Bob Cornthwaite, Sandro Giglio, Ann Codee, Lewis Martin
- PLOT:
Martians attack Earth and destroy a bunch of landmarks only to be defeated by bacterial infections.
- EVALUATION:
A could-be-worse adaptation that features alien ships that are slightly more convincing than its human actors.
- WRITING:
Based on the novel by H. G. Wells, but moved to southern California.
- FILMING:
Absolutely outstanding visual effects that wouldn't be topped for 15 years.
- BEST PART:
Any scene with an alien ship destroying something is entertaining, but the priest's death is probably the most striking.
- TRIVIA:
It would be remiss of me not to mention that Barry's character is named Dr. Clayton Forrester.
- STINGER:
Forrester checks the alien's pulse and pronounces it dead.
